Summary of the chapter The Invisible Man

The Invisible Man is a science fiction written by H.G. Wells. The story begins with the arrival of a mysterious man wearing a fake nose and gloves. He takes a room at the local inn. He was rude and never come out during the day. His body was wrapped with a bandage. The village people became suspicious about the burglar who was falling behind his rent. He committed burglary, and he revealed his identity as an invisible man. The village people tried to attack him and stop him from escaping, but his invisibility made it difficult, and he flees.

The stranger met Thomas Marvel and asked him to become his assistant. Thomas agreed, and they both went to the village to get his possessions. But they were attacked by the people, and again the stranger defeated them brutally. They both went to a town where the stranger steals money and put it in Thomas’s pocket. Thomas discovered it and asked to surrender, but the stranger tried to kill Thomas in a pub, but the bar patron rescued him. Then the stranger flees to one of his colleagues’ houses, introduces himself, and says he is Griffin. They knew each other at university, where he studied medicine and then dropped out to pursue his scientific interest. Griffin tells Kemp his story about how he became an invisible man. He asked Kemp to help him in his burglary as he could not become a man again. But one day, he was attacked by the people and beaten up and died. As he dies, the crowd see the fascination that he slowly becomes visible again.

Q2: What would you do if you become Invisible? Would you use your Invisibility to play tricks on people or for the good of people? Write a short paragraph on ‘If I were invisible.’

Answer :

A model answer has been provided for the student’s reference. It is strongly recommended that students prepare the solution on their own.

If I were invisible, I would help people and society. I would visit those places where the anti-socials wander at large and deter them from committing any crime. I would thwart any untoward attempts of terrorists. I would see the offices of authorities anytime to watch if they are carrying out their duties properly. If I were invisible, I would visit hospitals anytime to watch if the doctors treat the patients properly. I will visit the factories to check If anybody is practising child labour. I will use my invisibility to fight evils in society and do good for the people.
