The Sound Of The Shell summary

This is a story about young boys who were lost in a plane crash.  Ralph, a fair-haired boy, met another boy Piggy, who was chubby and intellectual. We come to know that the plane was crashed and scattered in the jungle on a deserted Island during their conversation. These surviving boys lost each other and could not find the pilot. They were wandering around the beach and discovered a large cream coloured shell. Piggy convinced Ralph to blow from the shell, which could be used as a trumpet, to find some other boys who were lost in the crash. Summoned by the sound of the shell, boys start to straggle onto the beach. Among the group of boys, the oldest was twelve years old, and the youngest was six years old. The group was lead by the oldest boy named Jack. They decided to explore the island. As they started investigating, the bond grows among them, and they reach the end of the jungle but could not find any mark of the civilisation. Then they returned to the beach and reached other boys who were waiting for them in the jungle.

Last spring l was on a trip to Andaman with my friends. We visited Havelock Island, one of the best beaches of Asia. We enjoyed thoroughly and all that we now wanted was to visit the Jaravas. They are the adivasi (indigenous folks) of Andaman Islands. We were told by someone where to find them. So, we left for the island from Port Blair. On our way we came across a storm and we lost the way. We pulled our boat to an island with much difficulty. There was little fuel left in the tank. We knew what we had landed into. We were 7 people and we were all thinking of the possible dangers that could befall. Little we knew about that lost terrain.

We did not know for how long we were to stay there. We were worried about the food and shelter, protection against animals and harsh climatic conditions. We started thinking of means of escape. We thought of sailing the boat with oar, but the boat was not in the condition to be rowed. It was a time when we had to think of all the life-skills. We were thinking of how to solve the grave problem we were stuck in. We realised that we had to wait for help until somebody comes finding us. So we decided to wait and deal with the situation. However, we were fortunate enough. When the news got spread that we guys were out there in the storm, a search party was dispatched immediately for our search and we were rescued and brought back safely to dock.
